The Space

The David H. Koch Theater, situated in the Lincoln Square neighborhood of Manhattan at Lincoln Center, is a premier venue for ballet and dance. Originally known as the New York State Theater, it has been the home of the New York City Ballet since it opened its doors in 1964. Additionally, it serves as a secondary venue for the American Ballet Theatre during the fall and was the home of the New York City Opera from 1964 until 2011. Located on the south side of Lincoln Center’s main plaza, the theater stands across from David Geffen Hall, near the intersection of 63rd Street and Columbus Avenue.

The Project

In this $5,000,000 project, The WBG worked alongside three different trades, iron workers, carpenters, and stagehands, to implement the client’s vision. Over 24 months, The WBG oversaw all trades and provided a fixed estimate for the entire job, which included an order of over 3,500 radiused, bolted down chairs.

Aside from the large number of fixed chairs, the David H. Koch Theater also required a tremendous amount of custom millwork. The WBG was able to provide a fixed estimate that was much lower than any of the other FF&E procurement companies. Not only that, but through meticulous sourcing and the leveraging of existing relationships, The WBG was able to complete the project under the estimated budget.

The David H. Koch Theater project highlights The WBG’s ability to work with multiple trades when needed and meticulous attention to detail.

The WBG Difference

For more than thirty years, The WBG has refined a procurement system for Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment (FF&E) that consistently achieves exceptional results, frequently coming in under budget. This success is primarily due to our established relationships with vendors around the globe, allowing us to obtain both standard and custom products at lower costs. Our vast experience enables us to anticipate and address potential challenges early, ensuring seamless project execution with minimal delays.

For this project, it was The WBG’s ability to work alongside other trades that set us apart from our competitors. Indeed, effective collaboration between FF&E procurement experts and other trades during a project offers several significant benefits:

Seamless Coordination

An FF&E procurement company that works well with other trades ensures that the installation of furniture, fixtures, and equipment aligns seamlessly with other construction activities. This coordination helps avoid scheduling conflicts and ensures that all elements of the project come together smoothly.

Minimized Disruptions

By working closely with other trades, The WBG can anticipate and mitigate potential disruptions. For instance, we can schedule deliveries and installations at times that do not interfere with ongoing construction work, reducing downtime and increasing overall project efficiency.

Enhanced Communication

Effective collaboration fosters open lines of communication between the FF&E procurement company and other trades. This communication is crucial for addressing any issues that arise promptly, sharing updates, and ensuring that everyone is on the same page regarding project goals and timelines.

Quality Assurance

Coordinating with other trades allows The WBG to ensure that the installation of FF&E items meets the necessary quality standards. For example, our project managers can verify that the electrical work is correctly installed to support specific fixtures and equipment, thereby preventing future issues.

Improved Problem-Solving

When The WBG works with other trades, we can collectively solve problems more effectively. This collaborative approach allows for the pooling of expertise and resources to address any challenges that arise during the project.

Cost Savings

Effective collaboration can lead to cost savings by reducing the likelihood of errors, rework, and delays. When trades work together harmoniously, they can identify and implement cost-effective solutions, optimize resource allocation, and keep the project within budget.

Timely Completion

Projects are more likely to be completed on time when FF&E procurement experts collaborate with other trades. This timely completion is essential for meeting project deadlines and avoiding costly penalties or delays in project handover.
